Sunfish spar transport

Support and position the spar bundle without improvising at the ramp.

Loose spars can be awkward to position, pad and secure on a trailered small sailboat. The MarinerX Spar Mount is being developed as a two-part system that gives a Sunfish spar bundle repeatable front and rear support points while it rides on deck.

The current prototype uses a front locating mount in the mast step and a padded rear support, with integrated straps and hooks. The design is still being tested and refined; it is not yet a regular catalog product.

The Problem

Transporting a Sunfish rig often means arranging long spars and the sail bundle on the deck, adding loose padding and finding reliable tie-down points. The setup can shift while straps are tightened, and recreating it for every trip takes time.

Intended Solution

The Spar Mount is intended to locate and support the spar bundle at two repeatable points. A front mount drops into the mast step, while a padded rear mount supports the bundle farther aft. Integrated straps and hooks are being evaluated as part of the complete transport setup.

The goal is a cleaner, faster setup that protects the deck and spars while helping the sailor position the rig consistently. Final materials, dimensions and included components may change as testing continues.

Intended Fit

The current development target is the Sunfish, with its spars carried together on deck during trailering. The front locating mount is designed around Sunfish mast-step geometry, and the rear support is being tested as part of that specific setup.

Fit on Sailfish, Minifish, Phantom, Scorpion or other small sailboats has not been confirmed. Those boats are not being claimed as compatible at this stage.

Responsible Trailering

The Spar Mount is intended to support, locate and secure the spar bundle as one part of a responsible trailering setup. It is not a substitute for properly securing the boat or rig. Drivers must inspect the mounts, straps, spars and all tiedowns before every trip.
